Come To Practice

Set your intention, have fun and let go. Move into a bigger version of yourself.

If you're a newcomer you may feel a bit awkward at first, but you are here to be supported. You will be encouraged to work within your own ability, learning to balance and play with your "edge" — between your physical body and mind. If you have a bit more experience, perhaps you will be presented with the idea that there is always more to learn through your explorations. Let me know about injuries or any limitations you may have. As I observe you and get to know you, I will be able to provide appropriate posture modifications to help you safely navigate a pose.

You are invited into your own sense of balance, ease and yielding. We all must endure pain in our lives. How we approach this is a means to have some control over suffering — which comes from not accepting what is happening. By focusing on what is in front of us, we drop away what does not work. Another of the lessons of yoga is feeling shtira (steadiness — firm, fixed, steadfast, enduring, lasting, serene, calm and composed) mixed with sukha (sweetness — delight, comfort, alleviation, bliss) on the mat and off, and into the other aspects of your life.

Experience being aware and in the moment. Instead of wishing you were somewhere else, commit to being present where you are. Turn down the dial on the mental chatter of the monkey mind. Pause. Come to a full stop. And just be. When we become present we are able to bear all our emotions with composure and equanimity, one of the four sublime attitudes according to PataƱjali's Yoga Sutras, along with loving-kindness, compassion, and joy.

Bring a yoga mat, a towel and a re-usable water bottle to drink from after practice. When you come to practice it's about recognizing you. Classes are small so there is a lot of personal attention for adjustments and corrections. Yoga props are here to support your postures. The fee for this energy exchange is reasonable. Private, almost-private and partner/couples practice also available.

Namaste.
