They have two children: a son, named Bernabe, Jr. and
a daughter, also named Montserrat (also called "Montsita", to
distinguish her from the elder Montserrat).
Montserrat Marti
is now also a soprano in her own right, and mother and daughter have recorded
an album of songs and arias together.
Caballe's heart of gold is legendary:
Throughout her career (honoring a request by benefactors
who had underwittten her musical training), and even after she had made
it to the top and could command enormous fees, Montserrat sang every year
at the Teatro de Liceu in Barcelona for a fraction of the fees she customarily
receives. She is widely recognized as a major factor in the survival of
the Liceu as a major opera house in Europe.
A German newspaper wrote in September 2000 that Caballé
gave her platinum ring to a small girl in Sofia , apparently in exchange
for the small silver ring the girl gave her at the Caballe concert in Bulgaria.

Montserrat is an accomplished painter, a hobby she
took up as a form of relaxation at the family's farm. Her work had been
admired (albeit anonymously) by the great Catalan painter Miro, who proposed
to swap one of his paintings for one of (unknown to him) hers.
Montserrat politely turned the offer down.
