After her triumphant New York City debut in a concert performance
of Lucrezia Borgia, the front page headline of the New York Times read:
CALLAS + TEBALDI = CABALLE
The Herald Tribune's John Gruen wrote of the event:
"If Callas has been dubbed La Divina and Sutherland La Stupenda, then
Montserrat Caballe must henceforth be known as La Superba.
(from the book "MONTSERRAT CABALLE CASTA DIVA" by
Robert Pullen and Stephen Taylor)
THE FOLLOWING IMAGES AND TRIVIA ARE FROM CLAUDIA WEBER FROM GERMANY
A stamp honouring the artistry of Caballe has been issued by the
country of Mali.
NOW CLAUDIA SHARES WITH US A COMPLETELY CHARMING TRIVIA:
In the late 90's Caballe appeared in television advertising
the popular German brand of perfume called "4711 - Echt Kölnisch
Wasser", a brand that has been around for a long time.
In the advertisement, Caballe was standing behind a long line of un-named perfumes in their bottles. She then sang a melody with an extended high note, during which the bottles started to shatter one by one, except for the bottle of "4711", of course!
At the end of the commercial advertisement, Montserrat is heard saying: "Ich mag's klassisch". (I like it classical).
Apparently, she also made or released a CD in Germany, called, you guessed right, "Ich mag's klassisch".
